Upgrade beta 1.8.x/RC1 installations to 2.0!
Those who have a Debris beta installation version 1.8.x or RC1 can uppgrade via the repository! The repo has updated package versions that will get you to state of Debris Linux 2.0. But since some of the latest changes involve more than just updated packages, I added an extra package named dbrs-beta-update (you find it in the "Debris" section of the repo) which will take care of the rest.
Debris Linux 2.0 (DL2) is based on Ubuntu Hardy (8.04 LTS). This will provide security updates much longer than the normal version, keeping Debris Linux 2.0 usable until April 2011.
DL2 main desktop is Gnome. Unlike Ubuntu, DL2 does not use Metacity as window manager. Instead it uses Openbox. Openbox was especially developed as a much faster replacement of Metacity as window manager for Gnome. However, it is similar to blackbox, or fluxbox and can be used as such. Hence one can choose to use Gnome, or Openbox standalone for desktop. The latter is especially useful on slow machines. It's advantages over the other *boxes is the easier configuration and especially the ultilization of the dynamic Gnome menu, which means the usage of *.desktop files.

The Debris installer (DebI) includes installing to HD and on USB sticks (frugal). The user can choose to let DebI install the bootmanager Grub (1, legacy) to the MBR, overwriting any previous installed bootmanager. In this case it will (try to) ditect other installed operating systems and include them to the boot menu accodringly. Otherwise, DebI searched for and installed grub (again grub 1 only) and integrades itself to it.
